Find and create exercises

Use the Exercise Catalog to search and filter exercises, review their details, or create your own custom exercise.

When preparing an AI-generated routine, use the external OpenExerciseDB exercise search ↗ or its machine-readable JSON catalog ↗ to verify canonical names and IDs. See the AI routine guide for how those IDs map to routine uuid fields; Train Libre’s in-app Exercise Catalog remains the place to browse exercises installed in the app.

Find an exercise#

  1. Open Workout, scroll past All routines, and tap Exercise Catalog. If the catalog is not available yet, follow the on-screen prompt to download its database.
  2. Enter a name or term in Search.... Tap Filter to narrow results by Body region, Equipment, Purpose, Difficulty, Mechanic, or Sides. You can select more than one option in a section; selections within a section widen results, while selections across sections narrow them.
  3. Turn on Previously performed to show exercises that appear in your workout history. Use Reset to clear the filters.
  4. Tap an exercise to view its description, classification, and involved muscles. When you have recorded it before, its detail page can also show exercise-specific history, records, and a chart. Use the chart’s metric menu and 30D, 90D, or MAX range controls to change the view.

Create a custom exercise#

  1. In Exercise Catalog, tap Create Custom Exercise.
  2. Enter an Exercise name and choose a Category; both are required. Add a Description (optional) if useful.
  3. Select Primary muscles and, if useful, Secondary muscles (optional). The Classification fields—Movement pattern, Force direction, Exercise type, Laterality, and Difficulty—are optional.
  4. Tap the checkmark (Save) in the top bar. The new exercise appears in the catalog and can be selected when building a routine or logging a workout. See Create and use workout routines and Track a workout.

Edit, copy, or delete an exercise#

  1. Open an exercise’s detail page and tap the pencil icon. For an exercise you created, edit its fields and tap the checkmark to save.
  2. Catalog exercises supplied with the app cannot be edited directly. Choose Create Copy & Edit to make a custom copy, then edit and save that copy.
  3. To remove a custom exercise, tap the trash icon and confirm with Delete. If the exercise appears in workout history, its log entries are kept but lose their link to the exercise. If it is in a routine, it is removed from that routine.
